As a parent, planning a family day out always feels like a mini-adventure for me. That's why even before the day arrives, I have to constantly look for places that balance fun, learning, and some well-deserved relaxation for everyone. That’s why I love East Coast Singapore, it’s packed with activities that make my kids happy while letting me unwind and enjoy the moment too. Here’s how we spent an amazing day exploring this vibrant part of the city and discovering some of the best places and things to do in East Coast Singapore.
Outdoor Adventures at Eastern Singapore
East Coast Park is a well-renowned park in Singapore and a great place for families to visit. Here are some enjoyable activities that you can participate in in East Coast Park:
1. Have fun at the beach
Bring the kids to the beach to enjoy a lovely day of sandcastle building, wave splashing and relaxing in the salt air. The beachfront around East Coast Park in particular is clean, safe, and ideal for children to explore.
2. Ride a bike or skate along the East Coast Parkway.
You can hire bikes or skates from one of the rental shops in the park and ride along the beautiful East Coast Parkway. The beautiful views of the ocean enhance the experience, and the designated routes make it safe for families.
3. Have a barbecue with your family.
Organise a family barbecue at one of the authorised pits in East Coast Park. For a nice supper by the water, you may either bring your own ingredients or buy fresh seafood, such as crab and prawns, from neighbouring markets.
4. Heritage Walks in Katong and Joo Chiat

Going on a stroll is a great way to spend quality time with your family while also providing an enjoyable pastime. My favourite spot to go for a walk is along the East Coast Road, which leads to Birds of Paradise, an ice cream shop. Numerous social media-worthy public artworks adorn the walls of several buildings in the area.
Also, at 107 East Coast Road, tucked away in a little side laneway between two shophouses, there is a magnificent masterwork called Medley Alley. It symbolizes the transformation from one generation to the next and looks like wings constructed of bright tiles influenced by Peranakan art. It's like visiting a gallery but without the stuffy walls.

Food Adventures with Kids at East Coast
Singapore is known for its vibrant food scene, and East Coast Singapore doesn’t disappoint. You can find some of the regional specialities in East Coast Singapore like Roti prata, chilli crab, and Katong laksa around Geylang Road, and Kallang MRT stations. Here are some family-friendly options:
8. 328 Katong Laksa

One of our stops during the holiday was 328 Katong Laksa in Marine Parade. The bowl of laksa was brimming with flavour—rich, creamy, and packed with prawns, cockles, and fishcakes. The kids found the noodle-cutting style fascinating, making it easier for them to eat. We paired it with their signature otah, a savoury side dish that disappeared quickly from the table.

9. Beach Road Prawn Noodle House
Another family favourite was the Beach Road Prawn Noodle House or Beach Road Prawn Mee on East Coast Road. The broth was hearty and sweet, with fresh prawns that had just the right bite. My little ones enjoyed slurping up the noodles while I couldn’t get enough of the fragrant chilli in the dry version. The cosy eatery added to the charm, making it a great spot for a satisfying meal.

10. Chin Mee Chin Confectionery
Another iconic place is the Chin Mee Chin Confectionery in East Coast Road. We didn't really go there this holiday but we've been there before and the kids loved the old-school charm of the place, from its retro tiles to its delightful bakes. The kaya buns grilled over charcoal were a hit, and the fluffy chiffon cake sweetened with gula Melaka was just the right treat to wrap up our foodie journey. It was a lovely way to introduce them to traditional flavours while indulging in a bit of nostalgia.
